2003 Mauro Molino Barolo

2003 Mauro Molino BaroloAC: I guess ever since I’ve tried that Paolo Scavino at Paese I’ve started to think Barolo might just be second to Bordeaux as far as old world quality wine goes… well, we’ve tried a couple of Barolo since then and doesn’t seem to bring back the memory of the Paolo, including this Mauro Molino… But certainly cannot use the word disappointing. This tannic 2003 Barolo might not be a tasty wine, but it has good structure and style to define itself. The finish is extra long given the tannic characteristic. A great wine afterall!! 91

VW: I also agree with AC that Barolo together with Bordeaux are couple of the greatest wine region.. although my heart really lies in Burgundy. This one is traditional in style while being produced in a very hot year. And that is probably not a good combination. Transparent red and medium light bodied, a bit too alcoholic with drying tannins. Quite tannic indeed and the fruit barely keeping up with with it. Maybe couple years would have this in better balance but after that the tannins would probably outlive any fruit that is left. 88 (Apr 10, 2008)
