1997 Elderton Command Shiraz
VW: One of my aussie favorite is Elderton’s Command. It often able to deliver deep flavours with proper balance… and so is this one. Nose of new oak, abundant black fruits. Very velvet, full and plump mouthfeel. Dense, with palate coating flavours… like melting milk chocolate. Resolved tannins that showed rather smooth at this point. Enough acidity kicked in during the mid-palate to keep the wine being fresh. Great texture, rather focused and ended with good length of vanilla oak. This seems to be peaking now. 93 (April-22-2007)
AC: I tried the Command with much expectation after tasting the exciting flavours of the 03 and 04 Elderton Shiraz. The result is quite disappointing… I find the Command a bit fatty on the palate which reminded me of the Turley Dragon Zinfendal we had some time ago. Having said that I can taste the dark fruit and it has the right acidity level. Weak tanin and not a very strong finish. Like Vincent said, it must have reached its peak. 90
