2005 Capiaux Santa Lucia Highlands Garys Vineyard Pinot Noir
VW: A dark pinot. Dense and sweet, lots of plummy fruits. Aromatically quite complex and floral. On the palate, this is showing the 14+% alcohol. Direct and pleasurable attack but fell off quickly in the mid-palate, relatively short finish for vineyard of this calibre. Good that the sweetish fruits are quite admirable without candied character. Not a bad new world example. 90 (Oct 3, 2008)
AC: I won’t be able to tell this is a Pino Noir if it doesn’t say on the label. Somewhat concentrated, this California Pino has a strong fruity nose. On the palate, the soya sauce taste reminded me of the Calera (also a Pino from California) I had some time ago. Quite interesting to see differences of Pino Noir from different countries. 90
