2004 Artadi Vinas De Gain Rioja
AC: With RP giving it a 93 for a non-Australian Shiraz it’s hard not to come taste this Spanish with some expectation. Transparent purple color. This 100% Tempranillo has a fruitier nose than its taste. This is a simple straight forward wine. Not much fruit to catch your attention and it doesn’t give you the long lasting finish that a good wine tries to make you remember. 90
VW: Open up with some anise, cherry and strawberry. The red fruits carried over to the silky palate. Quite tannic at first but the tannins subsided over the dinner. Relatively short finish. It lacks concentration of a good Rioja, showing more of a Burgandian style. The wine faded quickly after about 2 hours. It was balanced but the concentration and finish took away some points. Too young? 89+ (April 27, 2007)
