2003 Paolo Scavino Barolo
AC: The 2001 Scanvino was so good that after a bit more than a year, when we see this 03 available at LCBO, we immediately bought it and tasted it the same night. Opened with a fruity nose, this full bodied wine didn’t lack any fruit in the mid-palate. Concentrated, this new world-like wine certainly created a different kind of pleasure. Although it didn’t give the nose and taste as I remembered of the 01, this is still a very well structured, tannic wine. 92
VW: Much darker than the Mauro Molino we had ealier in the month. Clean dark fruits in the nose but without the dominant roses in the 2001. Probably showing much of this vintage’s character, high alcohol with a little hollow center. Good grip but the 2001 was cooler and much more seamless. Maybe couple more years can integrate the alcohol, not for the long term. 90 (Apr 26, 2008)
