2001 Almaviva
AC: Opened with a fruity nose, the fruits didn’t wait long to take over the midpalate as well. Turned out to be quite california-like. Not so concentrated, combining with a fair finish this has never showed itself as a ‘Rothschild’ wine throughout. Still, quite tasty and definitely not ‘disappointed’. 90
VW: Dark purple without age. Plum and leather and similarly on the palate. Ripe and generous, it is quite powerful on the palate with a bitter tannic finish. The finish is a bit drying and relatively short for wine of this caliber. It should soften a bit and probably be better in few more years. Tasty but missing the class of Bordeaux… but then we are not drinking Bordeaux here. 90 (Jan 1, 2008)
