1999 Kracher Scheurebe Trockenbeeren Auslese Zwischen Den Seen Number 9

1999 Kracher Scheurebe Zwischen Den Seen Number 9VW: Read lots of good reviews about Kracher and this was my first taste. A celebrated producers from Burgenland in Austria. The ‘Number 9′ here destinates the sweetness level of their dessert wine. Higher the number, the sweeter it is. It can go up to around 13 for some years.

Color is amber gold. It poured like maple syrup and I thought it would be too heavy from the look. Mainly apricot and peach on the nose. More and more complexity came out after swirl with whole array of tropical fruits like pineapple, mango and lychee. These all echoed in the enormously sweet and thick palate. Suprisingly all the sweetness is countered by bracing acidity. It was not cloying at all. In fact, it drinks easily as in any good dessert wine. A small sip is all it takes to coat the mouth with flavours and sugar. Very fresh with very little caramel taste. This will age a long long time. Maybe I am conservative with the score. Spectacular. 95+ (Nov 19, 2007)
