1997 Gualdo Al Luco and 2004 Chateau Lascombes
AC: Had these two wine on consecutive nights last long weekend. I am officially spoiled with these great wine I’ve been having these couple months… I had the 04 Lascombes first and when I tasted it at the time, it just confuses me as to what makes a good vintage for these great estates! 04 isn’t a bad year for Margaux but it isn’t great either (there are lots of better vintages compared to 04). I guess the only way to find out is to have a vertical tasting… Typical old world, you’ll fine that subtle quality again and again in wine from Bordeaux. Still quite tannic but definitely ready to drink. 93
The following night, thinking that I’ve just had a good wine the previous night, didn’t expect much from the 1997 Gualdo Al Luco. With a similar but fruity nose than the Lascombes, I knew I was up to something good. Also old world, this more than a decade old wine didn’t hesitate to show its stuff, with lots of fruit in the palate and quite complex. This only thing is it seem to lose some of the fruit over about 2 hours… could be just lack of food haha, still, a very very fine wine. 94
